About SCaLE 24x (Southern California Linux Expo) 2027
SCaLE, the Southern California Linux Expo, is a volunteer-run open source conference that has been going for more than two decades. Its 24th edition moves from the usual March slot to 1 to 4 April 2027 at the Pasadena Convention Center. It is far broader than DevOps, but it packs a lot for infrastructure people into four days: topic areas for 2027 include platform engineering and developer experience, systems and infrastructure, security, and open source AI, and two co-located events are squarely in our space. Cloud Native Days LA covers Kubernetes, containers, serverless, CI/CD, container security and Prometheus, starting with a day of workshops, and DevOpsDay LA runs on Friday 2 April. Database people get PostgreSQL@SCaLE and a MySQL and distributed databases event, and there are security, Nix and career days too. Talks run about 45 minutes, workshops two to four hours, and every speaker must present in person. The call for proposals is open until 1 November 2026 and explicitly welcomes first-time speakers. Prices are a fraction of commercial events: $30 for the expo or $80 early bird for full access, with a free companion pass for one child. Video goes to the SCaLE YouTube channel.
