About OpenInfra Day North America 2026
OpenInfra Day North America is a one-day community event for people who build and run their own data-centre infrastructure with open source, held on Tuesday 17 November 2026 at the Marriott Marquis in Chicago, near McCormick Place and within walking distance of the Supercomputing 2026 conference that week. It is organised jointly by the OpenInfra user communities of the United States, Mexico and Canada in support of the OpenInfra Foundation, now part of the Linux Foundation; the previous North American edition ran alongside SCaLE in Pasadena in March 2025. The four focus areas are cloud infrastructure and OpenStack, including production migrations, VMware replacement and large-scale upgrades; AI and sovereign cloud, running open models on GPUs and high-performance architectures; cloud native and hybrid integration with Kubernetes, Kata Containers, StarlingX and edge; and open storage with Ceph, CephFS and OpenStack Manila. The organisers ask for community content with no product or sales pitches. Tickets are very cheap: $25 for students, $35 early bird and $70 regular. The call for proposals closed in late August. Particularly timely for teams looking at leaving VMware or building private cloud and GPU capacity on open source.
